Another girl’s trip in the books for 2019! It has been about 14 years since I have been to New York City and what a fun city to visit again. I was 7 months pregnant when I first walked the streets of Time Square and I had forgotten to pack good walking shoes! This time I was ready for the pavement, but we had an arctic wind come in from the north for our quick weekend trip and those winds were soooo cold.
We had a newbie to NYC in our group, so I got to do some of the more touristy things again such as taking a ferry ride out to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island and taking in a play. I didn’t get the chance to visit Central Park during my last visit so we walked through a small section while we made our way to the ferry. I’m also a museum junkie and the MET filled the bill! One of my girlfriends brought some VIP passes she had been given for us to skate at Rockefeller Plaza. My ankles only held up to about 10 minutes of precarious skating around the perimeter and then we enjoyed the rest of our time drinking peppermint hot cocoa in the VIP lounge. Living the good life through the generosity of others!
When you go to New York you definitely go on a food-finding trip and we found two amazing restaurants! First of all, I cannot get enough of a good pizza and when we went to Grand Central Station we happened upon a little restaurant in the corner named Prova pizzabar. One of the few sit downs in the main area. Their small pizza was more than enough for one person and it was delicious! I would have eaten it every day if our hotel had been closer; that good! Then we decided to stop into a new place that none of us had eaten before; Trinity Place. The restaurant was located in a vault! Such a unique environment but so fun to see. The history is that the vault door is the heaviest one in the world and the bank was built around it after it was shipped and delivered by tracks to its current location. And last, but not least, I had to get good cannoli at Carlo’s Bake Shop. I’ve had cannoli and I was not a fan, but since that is what they are known for I decided to give it a try. I am now a Carlo’s Bake Shop cannoli fan! Delish!
As always, I’m feeling truly blessed to have girlfriends who love to travel and explore as much as I do and are good sports about having their pictures taken so often.
