Just a little insight into what makes me tick…
I absolutely love the photography side of my life and find a lot of it very fulfilling, but for those of you who don’t know me; I’m also a Registered Nurse. I have been for 20+ years now. I have worked in several areas of the nursing field; medical/surgical, orthopedics, IV team at a children’s hospital, long term pediatric care, and labor & delivery. Never in my life would I have fancied myself a teacher, though. Currently, I am a BLS instructor. That may come as a surprise to those who know me well because I am somewhat of an introvert and it makes me very nervous to get up in front of a class. BUT, I absolutely love teaching high school students and adults in all things medical! After the initial stress of getting in front of my first CPR class, I absolutely love to teach basic life support and I have a hard time staying quiet!
On another note, it’s a tad ironic that I’m teaching BLS today on my husband’s “Life Day”. What is this life day I speak of? Well, 5 years ago today, we almost lost Derek to a dirt biking accident out at a place called Little Sahara sand dunes. He was on a guy trip with some of his buddies and I got a phone call from one of Derek’s best friends saying he was being life flight-ed to the university hospital. Derek had become disoriented on where he was and went off a 30 foot cliff on his dirt bike. Things did not look good for my husband. But thanks to much fasting and praying by so many wonderful individuals in our life, we get to celebrate this day every year rather than mourn the loss of a husband and father!
I am feeling very blessed today.
This picture was taken almost a year after Derek’s accident. I sure do love this man!
